Scott Neyedli set a national record in finishing second to Patrick Vernay at the Ironman Australia triathlon championships at Port Macquarie (28th March 2010). This was another great result for Scott (following his second place finish at IM Western Australia in Dec 2009), and vindication for his decision to remain in Australia training specifically for this event through the winter.
Vernay lifted the title for the fourth year in a row when completing the course in 8hr 23min 54sec. Scott was slightly quicker than Vernay after the swimming and cycling stages, but lost ground in the early part of the run. Scott rallied strongly, however, and closed to within 40sec of Vernay at one point during the marathon, but dropped back again in the later stages to take second place in 8:27:58.
Scott was proud of his performance, immediately vowing that he’ll be back next year. “I’m lost for words. I ran with my heart and gave it my best shot.”
